Which states have the most veterans living there, and which has the most with disabilities? Numbers from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2019 American Community Survey were used in an article by indexjournal.com.
“We owe it our veterans to support them and provide the services they need,” said Alan Hubbard, NTI’s chief operating officer. A nonprofit organization, NTI helps veterans, Americans with disabilities, and family caregivers find work-at-home opportunities with free job training and placement services. You can register at www.ntiathome.org. “For more than 25 years, we have been helping people with disabilities find employment. Veterans bring a lot of experience and skills to any employers and make great hires.”
Alaska has the highest percentage of veterans living there at 10.7 percent, followed by Montana at 10.3; Virginia, 10; Wyoming at; 9.4 and Idaho, 9.1. Nation-wise, veterans make up 6.7 percent of the population.
“Opportunities to work in these states have increased by more remote-work jobs,” said Hubbard. “These positions allow people to live where they want to live and work where they want.”
Oklahoma has the highest number of veterans with disabilities at 37. 3 percent, followed by West Virginia at 37; Arkansas at 36.7; Oregon, 34.5; Kentucky, 34.3; Louisiana, 34.1.; Vermont, 34; Missouri, 33.1; Mississippi at 32.7; and Kansas, 32.5.
“We need to make sure, especially in these states,” said Hubbard. “A lot of Fortune 500, and large and small businesses benefit from hiring veterans. Right now, we know a lot of companies are having trouble hiring people. If they aren’t including veterans, they are missing out on a great opportunity to build their teams.”
According to the census, 30 percent of veterans have a disability, including PTSD, missing limbs, burns, spinal cord injuries, hearing loss, and traumatic brain injuries.
